I remember as a child, my father decided the color of our room. By our teens, dad saw fit to move to a bigger room and comfortable, but to surprise colonial painted it pink , a shade that honestly had us tired. If my father had consulted a specialist maybe we would have enjoyed a new and inspirational room with vivid colors, and consistent with our age. What do you think?
Some History
Some might say that either paint color is not important, or is it superficial, but above this, the paintings and their colors are very important as it always serves as a means of protection against moisture and the passage of time while helping the environment and give more light into space.
Since man arrived on earth 20,000 years ago had the need to customize their environment . Already the first hominids to decorate their walls with paintings of hunting scenes. Over the years, the materials used to paint their caves were made with lime, charcoal, ocher yellow, red and green.
At 4,000 years BC, the Egyptians were using coatings based hardening of casein, eggs, water, gum arabic and mineral pigments, iron oxides, malachite green, yellow-based arsenic trisulfide, etc.. to acclimate and prepare walls for writing.
Eight hundred years before Christ, appeared on the market the first guide of paintings . With the global population growth in popularity of wall paintings grew and with them the importance of color, the protection of the walls and decor up to the present day.
Today, the paintings are made on the basis of inorganic elements of the oil removed with binders and water combine to set the mixture on the walls. There is also a wide variety of them as varnishes, lacquers, water-based paints, enamels, etc. designed for the needs of each surface. Its application, drying, consistency and power of coverage vary according to quality and brand.Trend colors
Color as I know nothing, I decided to consult our friend, interior designer Karina Gamarra and consult what the color trends for this year and so give my house a new style. According to our specialist, color trends are different every year.
To explain better, says that firms often use multiple palettes of colors per year. For example, Sherwin Williams uses four basic color palette for this year.
“The first and the last pallet shows a more strong and outstanding while the middle two, show warm colors, soft and harmonious as well as elegant, but it also might go unnoticed,” he explains.
In my case, I draw much attention the rich tones and seeing so many colors I would paint them all. But beware, Karina explains that the idea is to combine vivid or intense tones of 1 and 4 pallets with pallet 3 and 4 having softer tones.
I give an example, as I have my room light and style at once , I will combine the intense orange color palette 4 with medium beige palette 3, I think that will give depth, life and elegance.
In 2011 the trends seen with ethnic elements, vintage. The tones are white, brown and beige tones blend perfectly with bold as fuchsia, turquoise and orange. Light colors like white, beige, gray or brown are the colors that reflect balance, comfort and hospitality, while intense, optimism and energy.
“In urban areas , the colors for the room are red, fuchsia and purple, as they attract to be strong and that optimism is reflected in everyday life. Also served with style living materials such as canvas, leather, synthetics, laminate flooring, and wallpaper, ” says the architect.
If you are looking neoclassical style is you can choose soothing colors such as cream, gray and pale blue to give elegance and harmony to your living room and can be supplemented with elements of Greek and Roman antiquity.

Quality counts
But for this we leave the desired color effect and need to know how to choose the best quality paint . For that, Karina advises us that:
Durability: It is related to resistance and washability. At the time of purchasing the product should consider the need for a coating against water, mold or stains, or is a floor paint, which must withstand high traffic to determine which is more durable over time.
Brightness: It’s the kind of finish paints provide. Can be matte, glossy or semigloss. Others classify it as glossy, semi-gloss and opaque. The choice depends on customer preferences, space to be covered and lighting that will be exposed to the paint surface.
Performance: Is the coverage power, which is the area to cover or hide with a quarter, half or one gallon of paint, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Performance depends on the type of tool that is used to apply and purity of the product, for example if you added too much water, solvents, etc..
Resistance: is the ability to withstand scratching, scraping, sanding, hitting, bending or flexing, without letting or mistreated.
Stability: Refers to the appearance of the liquid in the tank where it is. Clot formation, the creation of layers, the smell, the separation of pigments or the formation of a very thick substance, can make it be ruled out, but if the mix or stir the paint, this is uniform, the above was due only to rest.
Washability: A good painting should resist the action of cleaning products, such as neutral detergent dissolved in water, brushes, sponges or rags used to clean surfaces. Anyway, to have a longer life it is advisable to avoid using liquid polishes or abrasive cleaning powders, which could dislodge or crack the film.
Drying time: This is the time required for the paint to dry on the surface it is applied, which also determines when you can apply a second or third hand. The figure will vary depending on surface material, the purity of painting, the temperature and humidity, etc..
With all these recommendations, choose the ideal colors for our living room, bedroom or kitchen will be easier. Also, we will see much longer the new look of our house if we choose properly the quality of the paintings that will be used.
